First in a series of low key local Wednesday evening events in and around Tyneside, with a league to encourage participation and competition. Courses suitable for beginners and the more experienced wanting some training competition.

Terrain: The area is in 3 parts. The northern section is mostly flat open runnable ground (used for seasonal football games), but starts dropping downwards in the southern part, with a few steep earth banks, some blocks of woodland and the Badminton Centre. The middle section is the pit heap for the former Caroline Pit. A typical steep sided elongated hill, not as large as some we use, with a block of woodland along the eastern flank and mixed fast runnable or rough open grass. The southern section is a large area of fast runnable grass, with occasional trees and a small play area, sloping very gently from north-east to south-west.

Travel & Parking: Google Maps – Aim for Bowness Road and the Tyneside Badminton Centre (NE5 2TA). Just before the driveway to the Tyneside Badminton Centre begins the houses end. After leaving Pooley road, Bowness Road bends to the right, with an open grassed area on the right. Park considerately here, please.
Bus: No. 11, every 20 minutes from town, Pilgrim Street or east end of the Central Station, stops outside the Slatyford Tenants Association. Alight here and continue in the same direction as the bus to Bowness Road, first left which follow as for a car (400m.).

Assembly/Start/Finish – at the end of Bowness Road (off Pooley Road, Slatyford).
