Broomley Community Woods

    • Date:
    • Location: Broomley Woods
    • Starts from: 10:30 am

    Updates: 10/4/22 Terrain notes expanded
12/4/22 Map Scale & Courses close amended.

Terrain: A mix of recreational & managed woodland; some extremely pleasant (and very runnable) beech & oak.
Climbs are quite steep in places especially into/out of some gullies. Several manmade outdoor activity features. (e.g. mountain biking, bird watching). The Guessburn features a mix of housing and parks within a rural landscape.

Update: Like most woodland locally, the area suffered some damage from Storm Arwen, which has not been fully cleared. One area still contains a narrow but hazardous strip of windblown trees that all courses except Yellow and Orange need to cross. This area can be crossed safely at one point in the middle, or at either end, but competitors must not enter two areas that are clearly marked with purple hatching on the map. Farmland should also not be crossed by competitors unless on a marked path or track.
Most courses including Yellow and Orange cross a minor road at a point that will be marshalled. Courses other than Yellow and Orange cross or follow other minor or residential roads that will not be marshalled – be prepared to meet traffic on these roads.
