Jesmond Dene is the jewel in the crown of Newcastle’s parks and green spaces. It was given to the City by William Armstrong – a local engineer, industrialist and philanthropist – who had transformed the dene into his private garden, through the creation of waterfalls, a grotto and the planting of many exotic trees and shrubs. Some courses extend into Armstrong and Heaton Parks.
Travel: Jesmond Dene is signposted from the Coast Road (A1058) that runs from Tynemouth (in the east) into the City centre (in the west) – it is on the North side of the Coast Road.
Please note that the central motorway is closed southbound on Sunday morning.
Arriva buses 306, 308, 51 run regularly from the City centre towards Tynemouth/Whitley Bay/Blyth – alight at Cradlewell (see below) and follow the signs to Jesmond Dene and Pets Corner. Other buses include Go North East 307 and 309.
