Jesmond Dene is the jewel in the crown of Newcastle’s parks and green spaces. It was given to the City by William Armstrong – a local engineer, industrialist and philanthropist – who had transformed the dene into his private garden, through the creation of waterfalls, a grotto and the planting of many exotic trees and shrubs. Some courses extend into Armstrong and Heaton Parks.

Travel: Jesmond Dene is signposted from the Coast Road (A1058) that runs from Tynemouth (in the east) into the City centre (in the west) – it is on the North side of the Coast Road.

Please note that the central motorway is closed southbound on Sunday morning.

Arriva buses 306, 308, 51 run regularly from the City centre towards Tynemouth/Whitley Bay/Blyth – alight at Cradlewell (see below) and follow the signs to Jesmond Dene and Pets Corner. Other buses include Go North East 307 and 309.
    Jesmond Metro: 1 km.

Parking: There is limited pay and display parking (80 pence an hour) on Benton Bank and Red Walk (approach from Cradlewell.)

There is limited free off-street parking at the east end of Armstrong Bridge and street parking on Jesmond Park Road West accessed from Coast Road eastbound. Please park considerately. If parking to the east of the Dene, please approach assembly as signed from east end of Armstrong Bridge. Please keep to this route.

There is bicycle parking opposite the café.

Assembly: Millfield House Café (opposite Pets Corner) Jesmond Dene (///boot.shows.tells NZ261622 NE7 7BQ)
