Broomley Night Championships

    The North-East Night Championships, part of the Tyne Valley Night and Day weekend. Broomley Woods, Stocksfield.

    Terrain Mixed recreational and managed woodland, with some quite steep climbs in places. The Guessburn area features housing and parks within a rural landscape.

    Those aged under 16 on 25 November may only enter Course E. This is due to the hazardous road crossing on the other courses.

    Entries  Now open via SIEntries. Seniors (M/W21+): £7.00, Juniors (M/W20-): £2.00. Entries close Sunday 19th November.

    Symbols to note

    Starts  17:30 to 19:00. Please could slower competitors start earlier in the window.

    Finish by 21:00. Courses close at this time so competitors must return to download.

    Safety  Terrain will be slippery, so please wear shoes with suitable grips. Competitors must carry a whistle and a spare torch (doesn’t need to be a head torch). It may also be necessary to carry hat/gloves/waterproofs depending upon the weather.

    There are a lot of brambles and nettles so full leg cover is mandatory. Eye protection recommended due to low branches.

    Travel Signposted off the A695 opposite Stocksfield Station. Continue along Guessburn. NE43 7QP. NZ056606 Streetmap.
    Car parking Limited roadside parking with consideration for residents. Do not park in sideroads or block drives and other access. The station car park is for rail users only. There is some parking before the car park entrance and also in a layby on the B6309 on the north side of the station (pedestrian access through the station). There will be no parking at the Scout Hut.
    Public Transport Rail to Stocksfield Station (0.7 km from Assembly).
    Go North East Buses are on strike, (otherwise the GO North East bus no. 10 would run Newcastle <> Hexham and stop at Stocksfield Station).

    Orienteering is an adventure sport. A comprehensive risk assessment for the event will be prepared and identified risks mitigated. However, please be aware that participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.
