First in series of low key local Summer Wednesday evening events, in and around Tyneside, with a league to encourage participation and competition. Courses suitable for beginners and the more experienced wanting some training competition.
Travel:
Car: From A1 Jct77 (Southbound) Kenton Bar take A167 Ponteland Road (“City Centre”) . At the second roundabout take first exit: Eastern Way (“Cowgate”).
From A1 Jct 76 (Northbound) take A167 (“Newcastle West”). At 2nd rounabout take first exit A191
From City take A167 (“Jedburgh”) past the major Cowgate Junction and third exit at the next roundabout (unsigned). Forward at the next roundabout into Eastern Way. ///fakes.panel.dairy
Parking & Registration: Moorview Crescent Kenton NE5 3HP. Approach along Eastern Way from the roundabout junction with the A167/A191. Park south of registration on Moorview Crescent (park with consideration for residents).
Bus: From Eldon Square Bus Station to Cowgate, Springfield Road. Walk along Eastern Way approx. ½ mile:

Large groups should give prior notice, please.Terrain: Mix of fast open grass moor, quiet residential streets and open public areas. Shorts are permitted; no signs of undergrowth at the time of posting.
Courses:
Yellow (1.93 km.) ~ Orange (3.0 km.) ~ Long Orange/Red (5.0 km.). Straight line distances.
Starts: From 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Courses close at 8:00 p.m. All participants should return to registration by that time when the markers will be removed..
Maps ands Controls
Sites will be marked with a miniature O sign and orange tape secured with a clothes peg. Markers will have a code letter in permanent marker to be written on the control card. Carry a pen.
Electronic timing will be used for start and finish. All runners will be issued with a loan dibber.
Scoring:
100 points for the winner of each course, 99 for second, 98 for third etc. Anyone running in a course above their class will get a bonus of 5 points (10 for 2 courses above) and, likewise, anyone running a course below their class will be docked 10 points. Best four scores count.Safety: Orienteering is an adventure sport. Risks have been assessed and mitigated as far as possible . However, participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.
