    Terrain notes revised 1/5/26

Terrain Notes: All courses include open rough grassland with blocks of fenced conifers, sloping towards the river. Some tarmac footpaths, but several grass paths – slippery if wet. In some places sleepers from the old wagon ways remain across the path which could present a trip hazard. The courses also include quiet residential streets.

The Long Orange course includes an area of former brick works. Please note that here, sections mapped with close contours – or marked as earth banks – are very steep and could be dangerous. Please exercise caution if taking small paths in this the area. The road marked OOB can be crossed but must not be followed. This course also crosses a field where there may be ponies.

Travel: From A1 southbound junction 74 pull off left (“Newburn”), keep right towards the foot of the slip road (A6085) and follow round the roundabout. From City follow Scotswood Road past Blaydon Bridge interchange and continue along A1068 at the above roundabout. Appoaching the next roundabout keep to the right lane forward. At the next (miniature) roundabout turn right “Lemington” and soon as this road turns sharp right continue forward past the front of the Chapel.
From A1 northbound there is no immediate exit after crossing the Tyne. Best continue to the next junction and return southbound as above.

Parking: Park on Quarry Rd alongside the large grassed area or on the streets nearby. Please avoid parking in front of residents’ houses.  NE15 8ED Google Map ///pepper.grid/never
